Rohit Sharma Player Profile:
Rohit Gurunath Sharma, who was born on April 30, 1987, in Bansod, Nagpur, Maharashtra, was raised in a small but very close family speaking Telugu and Marathi. Here is a little boy from a back-ground, who has lived in Borivali, Mumbai, with his uncles and grand-parents, as Rohit mentioned, “while my parents – Purnima and Gurunath Sharma lived in a small one-room house in Dombivli, and I could only see them on weekends.” All this reminds him of the struggle his family had to endure, but he has also, looked back at those weekends as a time of love as well. Rohit’s younger brother, Vishal, who had similar dreams, for most likely had little other options available to him.

At this point, here comes the twist. Anixious to help, Rohit’s uncle, when Rohit was just 12 years of age, enrolled him in a cricket camp, putting some money and his family’s dream into a developing dream. It was at this camp – under Coach, Dinesh Lad, that he decided this was the kid who could change the family’s fortunes, not just any kid. Coach Lad encouraged the Sharma family to let Rohit join Swami Vivekanand International School (the cricket competences would be improved there) and that he would benefit from this opportunity. As luck would have it, Rohit received a scholarship for his four years at the school, which was the universe’s way of saying, “You’re on the right path, Rohit!”
And this is where the magic truly started. Rohit, who started as an off-spinner with a batting flair had advanced to an opening batsman. Imagine a kid, who might dream of playing a big match, to then making hundreds in the school cricket tournaments – including his historical debut century in the Harris and Giles Shield. Can you imagine the pleasurable feeling of that moment? Rohit finally had his “I made it,” moment, and the best was yet to come.

As Rohit got the chance to practice with coaching experts, he became more and more dedicated to cricket. Rohit’s rise to cricketing legend form a humble background, shows that sometimes, it only takes that one spark of luck and a bunch of heart. Whether it was support from his mentors, Coach Lad’s guidance, or Roht’s own dedication to his craft, this is the success formula. So, next time you see Rohit hit a six, remember, what started this journey for him was that small cricket camp, and a coach that believed in him!
Rohit Sharma’s Personal Life: The Man Behind the Cricket Legend
All right, it’s time to discuss the man off the field. While we all know Rohit Sharma as the captain who scores centuries for fun, you have to wonder what the rest of his life is like. Well, let me tell you; he has a soft side as well. His longtime girlfriend, Ritika Sajdeh, made him a husband on December 13, 2015 (sorry all you fans; he’s not available!). And just after a couple years, they had a beautiful daughter named Samaira, who was born on December 30, 2018. Fast forward just a couple of years to November 15, 2024; they were blessed with a baby boy named Ahaan. Sounds like a modern family to me!

But, wait—did you know that Rohit is a meditator? Yep, the man knows how to be calm and collected both on and off the field. The style of meditation he practices is called Sahaj Marg, which is about simplicity and naturalness—it’s kind of like a refresh for the mind. How balanced is that?
Let’s talk about his food habits now. Rohit is an eggetarian—yes, you read that right! So while he is not going to be diving into non-veg dishes, he is into eggs. So, if he is in a restaurant with you, you know exactly what to order.
And, while talking about food, let’s talk about his career. He hasn’t really worked with a lot of brands, but when he does, it is only the best. He has worked with CEAT and Hublot, and works with brands long term, which goes to show how brands love him. There is no surprise here because of his social status and his fame in the cricket world.
- Noise: In 2020, Rohit Sharma participated in a project endorsing their smartwatch. Seems the man has style and knows what’s hot when it comes to tech.
- Highlander: In 2019, he participated in a project with them for a limited performance clothing line, which would be pretty awesome, to be fair, and who wouldn’t want to look as cool as Rohit in vacation attire.
- Lay’s: In 2013, and yes I mean it, he took part in a Lay’s commercial. Who knew Rohit Sharma can really make chips look that good?
The point is that we can go on, and while we’re thinking about sports and health, he also had a partnership with Max Life Insurance in the finance and insurance world, because even cricket stars need to plan! And on that note, he had a deal with Glenmark Pharmaceuticals in 2021 endorsing health-related products as well. And if you need to book your upcoming vacation travel, he has deals with GoIbibo and Booking.com as well.

And in case you were wondering, he also had done work for Bournvita and endorsed the chocolate drink (again, who doesn’t love chocolate?) as well as Rasna beverages. And one of his recent projects and endorsements was through a company called FanCraze, launching his first personal NFT, launching in May 2022, because why not combine cricket and future technology?
Just with all these endorsements alone, it is very apparent that Rohit Sharma’s influence is beyond the cricket field. You quickly realize that with the change up as you look through, who is not pleasantly surprised to see that he is one of the biggest names out there in almost every sector of branding and a marketing champion. What else to say: from sports to lifestyle and even tech, dude gets around.
Rohit Sharma’s Youth Career: The Rise of a Star
Let’s backtrack a little and take a stroll down memory lane! Rohit Sharma, known for his big hitting, had actually made his first rippling contribution to cricket back in March 2005. Yes, we are talking about a young Rohit, slightly uncomfortable, slightly excited, waiting to bat for West Zone in the Deodhar Trophy against Central Zone in Gwalior. He came out at number eight — not a whole lot of glory there, but he wanted to show people something. And, boy did he show them! Calmly, lifted off a little of the pressure, Rohit scored 31 not out and helped his side win by three wickets. A little appetizer for the main course!
But wait, it wasn’t a one-off. That is it. Rohit was not a one-hit wonder, no way. A little while later, in the same tournament, Rohit again unleashed a banger of an innings against North Zone, scoring 142 not out from 123 balls — guaranteed a huge score but also splashing into what you could call a hello world moment. The hello world moment when you grab everyone’s attention and it is “Wait, who is that guy?” He was now the guy in the domestic game, it was breaking that boundary and stamp. He left his stamp alright, and he wasn’t just scrawling it out casually, it is a big mans signature!

Might I add, that his consistency of timing was noted too. He wasn’t long before he was called up to the India A team. I mean, you can’t tell me that being part of a team that was going on tour to Abu Dhabi and Australia isn’t like a dream! Yea, probably not happy to miss out on selection for the ICC Champions Trophy, but it was a huge effort to be amongst the 30 distinctive players.
This young lad was not only good but he was brilliant. Rohit Sharma was not on the rise, he was in-flight to greatness. He went out there every game, contributing another piece, and build-on the piece of their own tailing list.
Now fast forward to July 2006. Our lad Rohit is walking out onto the field for the India A team against New Zealand A at Darwin. What does he go on to do? He scored 57 and 22 in a thrilling game, that we, blew out to a three-wicket win. That’s good, right? But wait….
In December of the year 2006, Rohit made his Ranji Trophy debut for Mumbai. On the last day of December, no less! And he doesn’t just make his entrance, he explodes. No less than on making his entrance, scoring 205 runs from 267 balls against Gujarat. Game changer! They went on to reclaim their Ranji Trophy title that season — and Rohit, who had already proven himself, got right in the middle of that.
Pretty cool right? As you can imagine, from a young boy coming in at number eight to being one of the most feared batsmen in world cricket.
Rohit Sharma’s Cricket Career: A Journey Filled with Big Hits and Big Moments!
Let us examine the personality who has been rewriting the meaning of cricket with his batting prowess, Rohit Sharma. Actually, this is no ordinary cricketer; this is a legend in the making. Rohit began his Test career for India on 6 November 2013 against West Indies and he did not want to be a “just okay” Test cricketer.
He started his Test journey as a middle-order batsman but, with the 2019 series with South Africa, he was given the opportunity to open the innings (what an initiation). And what did he do? He scored two Test centuries on his first-ever Test as an opening batsman, becoming the first-ever cricketer to have achieved this feat.
No big deal, right?
In March 2027, our good friend Rohit had played in 67 Test matches and scored 4301 runs (including 12 centuries, and 18 fifties). Now that we call consistent.
But, wait, there’s more. Do we remember the ICC World Cup in 2015? Yes, Rohit did his thing as always for India and whether you were grounded as a child; who knows? Rohit scored 330 runs in the tournament, and he scored 137 runs in a quarter-final against Bangladesh to take India to the semi-final. That was a big deal then.
And then, who could forget 2019? Rohit went next level for India and was the first-ever cricketer to have scored five centuries in a World Cup! Five!! Crazy. Rohit scored 648 runs in the World Cup and won the ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year award. India may have lost the semi-final but Rohit only peaked in that World Cup.
Imagine when we thought he was going over the hill in 2023. The reality is that Rohit never was not the main man, but he made a significant statement at the 2023 ICC World Cup when he broke Chris Gayle’s record for most sixes in an international tournament. You remember those sixes? And they were not just sixes that had been hit for a little bit of fun and consolation; this was a serious statement.
The Biggest Hitter In World Cricket Had Arrived.
Now back to ODIs. Rohit made his ODI debut against Ireland in 2007 and has been a mainstay of the Indian team and the standard for openers since 2007. Speaking of his debut, do we remember Rohit scoring 264 runs against Sri Lanka in 2014? The highest-ever individual score in an ODI? As we write forward, Rohit has played in 273 ODIs and scored 11168 runs (including 32 centuries and 58 fifties). Crazy, right?
And speaking of T20I, Rohit made his international T20I debut in 2007 against England at Lord’s and has been the go-to explosion. He has played in 159 T20Is and scored 4231 runs (five centuries). But remember he announced retiring from international T20Is on December 2024 after leading India to win the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.Overall, Rohit Sharma’s career should be categorized in the book of history as elite high-level cricket playing while achieving in long format and short formats and achieved milestones, and performances written records. Overall Rohit Sharma’s career has been exciting if I may say, and we are just glad to be a part of it.
Rohit Sharma’s Franchise Career
Rohit Sharma began his IPL career in 2008 when he was a member of the Deccan Chargers. It’s hard to believe this was a long time ago, but he played there for three years without making an impact until 2011, when he signed with the Mumbai Indians after a successful bidding war at a price of $2 million, who presumably stated at the time that they were joining hands with with the future captain of the Indian National Team down the line.
Fast forward and to his surprise Rohit became the Captain and led the Mumbai franchise to 5 unbelievable IPL titles! That’s right, FIVE! 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020, Mumbai had more glory, more tears of joy and celebrations happened every single year. And of course he was a captain who performed with the bat in hand too as he amassed over 5,700 runs with an unbelievable strike rate of 131.05 to boast. I won’t even get into the details of his astonishing 109* against KKR in 2012, and really, you could see it from all the way across the stadium, he was in a zone!
In any case, 2024 was the year of the “twist”! Rohit scored his 2nd IPL century of his career (108*) against rival Chennai Super Kings, and believe me, it was not just a century. This was basically a way of saying, “I am still Roooooohit Sharma, and I am still a boss!”
With Hardik Pandya taking over the captaincy in 2024, Rohit is still a LEGEND because the Mumbai Indians franchise is still very much posterizing his great legacy! Picture a mountain, Rohit’s legacy and impact stands like a proud mountain, not swayed or shaken by any other newly established player in the country. Wrestling is an arguably different sport to cricket but the impact of Rohit as he is a player with irreplaceable leadership and contributions as a player. And don’t count Rohit out of cricket, there are still years left and plenty of cricket ahead of him!
Rohit Sharma’s Career Stats: Where do we begin?
Rohit Sharma is the cricketing equivalent of a Swiss army knife – versatile, dependable and always ready to go! When talking about one of India’s greats in the game of cricket, it can not be overlooked. Test match, ODI or T20, we have got it covered and he has numbers that are out of this World. And let’s not forget, this guy can bowl! Yes, that’s right. Rohit has a few wickets. But we need to reiterate he is a match winner based on his batting. Rohit Sharma has the ability to deal with spin as he does with the quicker bowlers while still being calm, calculated and rising to the occasion. Rohit Sharma is an irreplaceable player in the national team.
The next time you watch him play, all you need to do is sit back and watch as the runs flow easily – this guy is not done yet!
Rohit Sharma Playing Style
Rohit Sharma’s batting is akin to a perfectly made cup of coffee – smooth, strong and fresh. He is more than a cricketer; he is The Hitman. And believe me, once you see him in action, you will understand why it is a fitting nickname.
Thus, when he walks to the cricket field, you can confidently refer to it as a dance with the ball. The timing he possesses? Chef’s kiss. It’s true, the human being will hit a ball to the ground with what looks like no effort whatsoever. Fast bowlers? Not a problem. There he is again, effortlessly hitting the ball, with the presentation of a dignified act, as if taking a walk at the park. His foot movement is so smooth, it appears as if someone choreographed it.
When he moves around the crease, he behaves like no other; he fits on the stage of the cricket patch, ever so smoothly, and focused on establishing a perfect setting for the next beautiful shot, be it the ball in front of him or behind himself. He makes all of that progress so casually, and even all of the challenging balls, appear as easy deliveries to whoever has the opportunity to watch him.
There’s the short ball, the one that gives many batsmen chills down their spine. But not Rohit. No. He can handle a bounce ball like a seasoned magician, pulling rabbits from a hat! The man has pull and hook shots, which are poetry-in-motion. He has a mechanism for estimating the length and line of the ball, which is obviously quicker than many. You could feel the crowd chirping every time the man hit a boundary, which made it even more remarkable due to the pressure that the fast bowlers had, alternatively, the man achieved an easy boundary, whilst many other players were sweating behind the stumps.
Then there’s versatility. This guy can play any format and he can play it stylishly. Thus, in limited overs, Rohit is master of the opening spot. He has redefined opening batsmanship with aggression and grace, which makes you sit on the edge of your sit when he is at bat. And if we talk about Tests, he has transitioned into the role as well, as it is so easy for him, you’d think he is walking in the park! This man does not play, he adapts
Rohit’s aggression is not the type that is all over the place. He may play it perfectly, waiting for the right moment, a perfectly timed strike; deliberate, intelligent and fits within the context. When he needs to lift the run rate, Rohit has never appeared to panic. In fact, he always put the job to rest, while never losing his wicket! Thus, he becomes such a dangerous foe. It is this electric surge of aggression that he possesses, but, again, does it peacefully. There is no question that throughout any format he can hit; he also hits hard and smart.
Rohit Sharma’s Accomplishments: A Cricketing Great in the Making!
So let’s get to it, the man, the myth, the legend – Rohit Sharma! This dude has done it all in international cricket and honestly, probably does it better than anyone else and makes it look at LEAST 10x easier than it is on the field!!
First up – who could forget that insane 264 run innings against Sri Lanka in 2014? That’s still the highest individual score in ODI cricket, ever!! If you don’t think that’s crazy enough, Rohit is the only player in the world (that’s right, the only one) to score THREE double hundreds in ODIs! That’s some serious record-breaking stuff!
AND if that wasn’t enough, during the 2019 Cricket World Cup, he did the unthinkable; 5 centuries in a single edition of the World Cup!! I’m sure that record will they be there for a long, long time! To put this into perspective, we’re talking about a guy that is breaking records like I would be taking a leisurely stroll…
Hello, thank you very much, if all that isn’t enough, let’s look at the 2023 match against Pakistan; where he become the first Indian player to hit 300 sixes in ODIs. I don’t know about you all, but that kind of motivation would of made me want to pick up a bat, and smash a few sixes myself!
Look, if i’m being honest, this isn’t supposed to be all about records. There have been so many times he has been awarded for his phenomenal performances. He was also awarded ICC ODI Player of the Year in 2019 (very well deserved!) plus awarded the Arjuna Award in 2015 and the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award in 2020, both very significant awards from the Government of India.
On top of that, he was able to achieve Asia Cup victories in 2018 and 2023 as captain of the Indian side. And that would still not be his biggest feat! As a captain of a IPL franchise; the Mumbai Indians, he has a whopping Five IPL titles under his leadership. FIVE. That’s an elite level of leadership!
So, who says Rohit Sharma is just a player, when he certainly looks to be on his way to becoming a legend! Cannot wait to see what else he does!
Rohit Sharma’s Awards and Honors — A Collection of Cheers, Awards, and Some Very Heavy Shelves
In cricket, Rohit Sharma is not only playing a sport—he is building a legacy, one century (and six) at a time. And believe it or not, the world is paying attention. Over the years, Rohit has collected awards and honors to the point where his cabinet is bulging, and the poor thing has not collapsed under the weight of it all yet.

National Honors
- Arjuna Award (2015): In 2015, the Government of India made it officially official when Rohit received the Arjuna Award—which is their way of saying, “You are a national treasure, and we want the world to know.”
- Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award (2020): By 2020, boom, India’s highest honor for sport comes showering down on Rohit. One giant “thank you” for putting a big old smile on faces in cricket stadiums all over the world.
International Cricket Council (ICC) Awards
- ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year (2019): 2019 was the year Rohit was a seven-alarm fire. So much of a literal fire that the ICC had to honor him with the acute title of ODI King—how could they not?
- ICC Men’s ODI Team of the Year (2014-2019): Wow! Six years in a row on the ODI Team of the Year—Not luck, that’s Rohit making an address.
- ICC Men’s Test Team of the Year (2021): Rohit showed the world he is not just a white-ball player—he is also batting like he is writing poetry with a cricket bat in Test cricket.
- ICC Men’s ODI Team of the Decade (2011-2020): Ten years of excellence. Can you imagine being so good for a decade that you have the adjectives run out on you?
- ICC Men’s T20I Team of the Decade (2011-2020): And because one was not enough, Rohit made sure to grace the T20 arena for ten years straight. Nothing brings a party to life like Hitman.
Other Recognitions
Wisden Cricketers of the Year (2022): In 2022, Wisden tipped its imaginary hat to Rohit by including him as one of the top five to Cricketer of the Year. If cricket had a Walk of Fame like Hollywood, I would have to believe that Rohit’s handprints would be on the pavement—bat and all.
From national awards to the global awards arena, Rohit Sharma’s incredible trophy haul is not just a collection of awards, it is an incredible story of character and class and love for cricket that keeps on giving. And if you think he is done, well… you clearly have no idea what the Hitman mode is yet.
Rohit Sharma’s Philanthropy
You’re familiar with Rohit Sharma the cricketer, but let’s discuss Rohit Sharma the superhero. Outside of the bundled contract, he has quietly made magic happen in the lives of animals, kids, and communities that are deserving of a little extra love. In 2023 Rohit rolled up his sleeves and founded the Shri Rohit Sharma Charitable Trust (SRSCT), based in Kota, Rajasthan with a mission for better education, better healthcare, and an opportunity for better possibilities for people with more difficult circumstances, no red-carpet treatment in the efforts of setting up free medical camps, providing access to education and in time advocating for women empowerment.
Rohit doesn’t simply stop at what he can do alone, he also brings the heavy-hitters into all of his actions. In August 2024 he enlisted Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni and Rahul Dravid (an all-star team!) for a charity auction titled “Cricket for a Cause: To Benefit the Vipla Foundation”. They donated their one-of-a-kind cricket memorabilia that anyone would sell a kidney for, to raise money to help underprivileged communities all across India. Every last rupee went directly toward the work of the Vipla Foundation.
At the core of all of [Rohit’s actions] is a simple philosophy: when life has been good for you; you give good back. And if you can do it with a few legends? Even better.
